Happy Days Out offers a beautifully illustrated children’s picture book about the English Lake District. Aimed at children 0-5 years, it is full of ideas for days out with preschool children and makes a perfect gift or souvenir. Reading it with a young child is a very special way of remembering time spent together in the Lake District and children will love looking for Arbie the little owl, who is hidden on every page!

Our story

Finding myself as a stay at home mum, I began to explore the Lake District. Together with my daughter Sianna, we went on many days out – some with friends, some with family and some just the two of us. Sometimes we went for a walk and other times, we went to a tourist attraction. We spent quality time together, being ‘in the moment’ and created some fabulous memories. I watched her find great happiness from the simple things, like throwing leaves in the air or feeding the ducks!

At bedtime, I would talk to Sianna about what we’d done that day and encourage her to be thankful for such a lovely area. I soon realised that what we needed was a picture book that we could both enjoy and reflect upon. – And so the idea was planted!

I wrote down some of the happiest memories we had created. After lots of talks with other parents about their days out together, I finalised the text for the first book -‘Happy Days Out in the Lake District’. The intention was to create a picture book that could help children and families share lasting memories of this beautiful area together.

Piers Harper, an award winning children’s illustrator agreed to bring my text to life. And so after hundreds, (perhaps thousands?!) of emails back and forth, he has done an incredible job of creating warm, humorous, brightly coloured illustrations that we very much hope you and the child in your life will enjoy looking at together. Have fun!
