The Dales Countryside Museum is housed in the old railway station situated in the Yorkshire Dales town of Hawes. It tells the story of the Yorkshire Dales and about the life of the people who have lived and worked in the Dales and their contribution in shaping the landscape for thousands of years.

The museum is fully wheelchair accessible, including the route through the train carriages which hosts wonderful artifacts from a Victorian schoolroom and chapel.
Throughout the year there are different exhibitions within the museum and a range of workshops for people to sign up for. During the school holidays there are also activities for children. It really is a great place to visit.

The FireBox Café is a good pit stop too, which is accessed through the main entrance of the museum and the little shop sells a lovely range of Yorkshire Dales products.

The museum is open daily from 10am to 5pm, February to October, and 10am to 4.30pm, November and December. (Closed Christmas Eve to Boxing Day, and throughout January)

Deb’s Verdict
I’ve visited Hawes so many times in the past and have never visited the museum until recently. I was so surprised in the quality of the exhibitions as well as the thought that has gone into the layout and access to the museum. I will be definitely be recommending this lovely place as a top tourist attraction of the Yorkshire Dales from now on!
