Description
The English Lake District made easy …
The English Lakes are beautiful at any time of year. The majestic fells and tranquil waters have attracted lovers of magnificent scenery for more than two centuries with walkers and writers’ alike rejoicing in the unique vistas. Our week of leisurely half day walks and visits to cultural highlights captures both sides of the Lakes. There’s also time to stroll around Lakeland traditional villages and enjoy a cream tea, some locally made ice cream or a Cumbrian pint.
We visit sites associated with Wordsworth around Grasmere and Beatrix Potter above Windermere. We walk around Buttermere, beside Derwentwater, Rydal Water and Windermere. On other days we visit the delightful Borrowdale and Eskdale. We pay a visit to the fascinating Honister Slate Mines, ride the picturesque Ravenglass to Eskdale Railway (known locally as the La’al Ratty). We also visit the gardens of Muncaster Castle and take a ferry across Windermere. The drives to and from our day visits are beautiful in themselves.
The views from the lounge and bedrooms of Hassness Country House across the lake to Red Pike are some of the finest in England. There also is a terrace from where you can admire the views alongside the red squirrels and Herdwick sheep roam around the large informal garden. The relaxed atmosphere reminds us of holidays from a bygone age. Start the day with a leisurely full English breakfast, and then end it with a delicious dinner. This is a special holiday in a special place.
