Boxing Day walks are up there with panto and football for traditional pastimes the day after Christmas. Below are some of our favourite routes all over the country that would be perfect for a post-chrimbo wander!
1) Richmond Park, London
Easily accessible via public transport, Richmond Park is the perfect place to work off some of those Christmas treats!
With miles of paths, you can choose a route to suit your groups ability – plus if there are children in tow there is the lure of the deer and plenty of cafes for a cheeky hot chocolate!
2) Clifton Suspension Bridge, Bristol
After a busy Christmas, it can be nice to get some peace.
This walk on the western edge of Bristol meanders through the scenic leigh woods, as well as past the iconic Clifton Suspension Bridge, built by Isambard Kingdom Brunel back in the Victorian times. It’s the ideal walk for a lazy boxing day.
3) Sheringham Park, North Norfolk
This walk in the beautiful North Norfolk makes the most of the stunning coast and the tranquil woodland in the area.
The site is managed by the National Trust, and so there are many routes around the park – from shorter child-friendly ones to longer routes for those who’d like more of a leg stretch.
4) Four Falls Trail, Wales
In the mountainous Brecon Beacons, you’ll be hard pressed to find a better walk for Boxing Day. Popular year round for it’s beautiful waterfall views, including one you can walk behind, it’s the perfect place for whiling away a bank holiday.
There is even designated car parking available, but make sure to arrive early to avoid missing out on a space!
5) Porter Brook Valley, Sheffield
Either starting or ending in the centre of Sheffield’s Endcliffe Park, this family-friendly walk follows the Porter Brook from the Peak District village of Ringinglow all the way to the bustling city.
There is plenty of wildlife to see, as well as stunning views and woodland wonder to enjoy.
6) Brimham Rocks, Yorkshire
Located north of Harrogate, Brimham Rocks is an otherworldly collection of glacial rock formations, cared for by the National Trust.
It’s the perfect place to take kits as all the rock can (and should!) be climbed! It’s dog friendly too, so your furry friends don’t have to miss out on the Boxing Day fun.
7) Arthur’s Seat Walk, Edinburgh
This short but sweet walk up one of Edinburgh’s most famous landmarks is perfect for a Boxing Day wander – it offers excellent views over the city as well as an insight into Edinburgh’s volcanic past.
You’ll definitely deserve a mince pie afterwards!
