‘Towns and villages with something special to offer walkers’
Walkers are Welcome is a nationwide initiative launched at Hebden Bridge, Yorkshire in 2007 to encourage towns and villages to be ‘welcoming to walkers’. The network has expanded rapidly and there are now over 100 locations across the UK that have joined this innovative community-led scheme that benefit from Walkers are Welcome accreditation.
We aim to give ordinary people in rural communities the knowledge, skills and confidence to make a difference in their town or village. We encourage improvements to Public Rights of Way and to the services offered to walkers, working in partnership with local authorities and many other organisations. The usual, non-honeypot, destinations benefit from increased walking tourism, healthier lifestyles and fantastic community cohesion but still retain local culture and unique experiences.
Why not consider a Walkers are Welcome destination for your next walk or staycation.
“Walkers are Welcome are thrilled to be a partner with The Outdoor Guide and a TOG Friend. In admiration of Julia’s ambassadorship for the shared love of walking.”
