Walk Details

This short one-mile loop walk explores the thatch cottage, gardens and woodlands that were the birthplace of iconic English author and poet Thomas Hardy.

Thorncombe Woods, the woodland directly behind Hardy’s Cottage, is a lovely place for a stroll at any time of the year.

This walking trail takes in some of the places that were engrained in the young Thomas Hardy’s mind and later translated into the sentences of his writing.

The ancient woodland and nature reserve open onto beautiful heathland, and you can also visit Hardy’s Birthplace Visitor Centre as part of your trip.
