An AccessTOG walk through Aachen by night
The next stop on our whistle stop tour of Germany was Aachen. It is a vibrant student city and our evening tour began at the Elisenbrunnen, where the warm, sulphur-smelling water bubbles up.
The Aachener Dom (cathedral) is the most important landmark of this medieval city and the architecture is stunning. Between the Cathedral and Market Square is the puppet fountain – a really unusual and quirky water feature which consists of several bronze puppets with articulated body parts that can be moved and be repositioned by people passing by.
After our walk around the city, we had a most enjoyable late evening meal at a restaurant in the market square.
Though it was a cold evening, we were able to sit outdoors, keeping warm under the blankets and patio heaters.
Our accessible accommodation was the Innside by Melia which was slightly out of town but you can walk in to the city from there.
