You start with a short walk south of the village along the banks of the Afon Glaslyn to Gelert’s Grave – Beddgelert’s most famous landmark.
According to legend the stone monument marks the final resting of place of Gelert, the faithful dog of medieval Welsh Prince Llewelyn the Great, who mistakenly slayed his unfortunate hound because he thought it had murdered his infant son.
You’ll also explore the spectacular Pass of Aberglaslyn, tiptoeing through the narrow gorge with the Afon Glaslyn raging alongside you. The old copper mines of Sygun and Cwm Bychan complete a beautiful circular route, which delivers great views down Lyn Dinas towards the finish.
This route was voted 31st in a 2017 ITV poll to find Britain’s Favourite Walk.
