At The Outdoor Guide, we believe that access to the outdoors isn’t a luxury; it’s a lifeline.

Spending time in nature is proven to boost mental health, improve physical wellbeing, and strengthen our connection to ourselves and to others. But the reality is, millions of people across the UK still face invisible and visible barriers to the natural world. For some, it’s a missing ramp on a route, for others, it’s the wrong footwear, an unmarked trail, or simply not knowing where to begin.

When people are excluded from nature, they are excluded from one of the most powerful tools we have to support health, happiness, and a sense of belonging.

That’s why the TOG Foundation exists. We aim to remove those barriers and make the outdoors a place where everyone feels seen, supported, and able to thrive.

We work hand in hand with schools, communities, and ambassadors with lived experience to drive real, practical change. From providing waterproof kits to children who need them to filming, plotting and sharing accessible walks across the UK, our mission is grounded in kindness, action, and inclusion.

Because the outdoors should be for everyone, and we won’t stop until it is.

Meet Our TOG Foundation Ambassadors!

Sharon Thomas · Accessible Walks Ambassador

Sharon is a tireless advocate for inclusion in nature. As a wheelchair user, she knows what it takes to make outdoor routes truly accessible. With her camera, her motorised wheelchair and her loyal dog Rubix by her side, Sharon tours the UK testing how inclusive each route really is. She notes practical details like path width, gate access, parking, gradients and changing facilities. When something’s not right, she works with landowners, councils or park teams to help fix it.

Sharon captures her journeys in filmed stories that inspire others to follow. Her aim is to give people the confidence to plan adventures, knowing they have reliable, helpful information.

Over the past 6 years we have mapped and tested over 100 routes throughout the UK. These wheelchair friendly walks have all the information you will need to decide whether the route is right for you.

Gemma Hunt · Waterproofs & Wellies Ambassador

TV presenter and outdoor champion Gemma Hunt leads the way on our Waterproofs & Wellies project. This nationwide initiative equips state primary schools with waterproofs and wellies so children can enjoy the outdoors in all weather.

Gemma’s school visits, kit drop days, and storytelling all support the idea that every child deserves to explore the natural world, regardless of background or circumstance.

Children learn best when they feel free and curious. The outdoors builds confidence, creativity and connection. No child should miss out on that because they don’t have the right gear.’

Aiden Redfearn‑Ward · Youth Ambassador

Aiden’s love for nature is infectious! At just nine years old, he helped raise awareness and support for Waterproofs & Wellies by rallying his local community and fundraising to equip schools in Somerset.

Whether he’s blogging for TOG, climbing hills, or visiting classrooms to talk about the outdoors, Aiden proves that young people can lead the way. His enthusiasm, curiosity and kindness are a powerful reminder that the next generation is already helping shape a better, more inclusive future.

‘I chose an outdoor challenge because being outside is one of my favourite things, and I want all children to be able to stay warm and dry so they can enjoy it too.’

Waterproofs & Wellies for Primary Schools

The Waterproof and Wellies project is the flagship initiative from The Outdoor Guide Foundation. We are passionate about promoting the benefits of getting outdoors, but it has become clear to us that this is not possible for children who don’t have the correct outwear.

That is why we have launched this project, which aims to donate 10 Waterproof and Wellies kits to every primary school in the UK. Gina Bradbury, MD of The Outdoor Guide, has negotiated with respected outdoor wear suppliers to provide these kits at cost price.

These kits, at the cost price of £35, are also be available for purchase by parents from participating schools using a special code. Simply enter the code given to you by the school and select the correct size for your child. Once we have received your payment the kit will be sent to you.

You can also donate to the fund which will help provide other schools with Waterproof and Wellies kits here.

Thank you for supporting the Waterproof and Wellies project! Happy walking!
