Walk Details
This picturesque dog walk is cut into the valley side on the slopes of Foel Ispri with stunning views of the Mawddach estuary, Barmouth viaduct, Dolgellau and the Arans.
The route follows a flat grass- and shale-surfaced track known as The Precipice – a former tramway that once led along the hillside to the now abandoned goldmines at Foel Ispri.
The remnants of some mine buildings still remain, along with a few connecting paths and tramway beds.

The route was upgraded in 2009 at a cost of £40,000 to make it wheelchair-friendly, and the accessible section is renowned for its stunning panoramic views of the Mawddach Estuary and the peaks of southern Eryri / Snowdonia.
The drive up to the car parking area at the start of the walk is narrow, steep and winding, and passes through several field gates. But once the start of the walk is reached, the main section is entirely flat and level. The accessible route runs for around a third of a mile, linking up to footpaths of a more challenging nature through forestry and moorland.
This walk is part of the Dogs Die in Hot Cars Campaign. Please don’t take the risk by leaving your dog alone in a car on a summer’s day. ‘Not long’ is too long.
