Walk Details
The Lake District offers many walks with amazing views and this is one of them.

We’re starting off in Rosthwaite, a small village in Borrowdale. From here we cross over the River Derwent and follow its course south west for a while. As we skirt around the back of Seatoller we get ready to start the ascent up and northwards towards the much-cherished Castle Crag fell which stands at just under 1000 feet.

From the lush green valley floor, to magnificent views over Derwent Water, this walk is a great way to take home a lasting memory of the Lakes, and all in under three hours.

Our walk finishes on the summit of Castle Crag – so you need to be prepared to either retrace your steps back to where you began or consult your trusty map for an alternative route to take you onwards.

This walk featured as part of Julia’s Best Walks With a View series. For this episode Julia took in some of the history and landscape of the surrounding fells, from the miners and farmers who work the land, to the many sportsmen and adventurers who have called this place home – including the record fell runner Billy Bland and the earth 20th century adventurer, Millican Dalton.

Julia was accompanied up Castle Crags by mountaineering legend Chris Bonnington and begged the question – what’s best? Everest or Castle Crags?

Remember to prepare properly before heading out on any type of walk or outdoor activity. Tell people where you are going and what time you are expected back. As Wainwright says "There's no such thing as bad weather, only unsuitable clothing".
