Walk Details
We’re starting our walk today from the Isles of Glencoe Hotel on the banks of Loch Levan. The hotel is a great base if you’re looking to explore the Highlands!
To start with we’re headed north and following the path around the Ballachulish Peninsula. This part of the walk offers some great views out across the loch.
When you’re ready we’re then heading inland, taking care when crossing over the A82, continuing straight over to Park Road. Taking a left we pass the old post office which is now a Co-op shop. Crossing across the car park we’re headed towards the octagonal shaped building which is the Ballachulish Visitor Centre. You may wish to pause here for a moment to find out more about the area.
From here we head left on Albert Road and then take a right towards the Ballachulish Slate Quarries. If you’ve brought a picnic with you (or perhaps picked something up at the Co-op) this is a nice place to stop to enjoy it. This is only a small site – but one rich in history that the information boards explain.
Heading back the way we came, on to Albert Road, we turn right and then turn right again along the A82 to see part of the slate mining past on the hillside overlooking the road and the path. We then double back on ourselves, back towards the Visitor Centre, but taking the right turn onto Park Road just before we reach it. On your left you’ll see the Slate Monument.
Follow Park Road until it meets the A82 and then carefully cross over and head back to the Isle of Glencoe Hotel where we started and perhaps pop in for something to eat or a wee dram to finish your walk.
