Walk Details

Hello, I’m Sharon and I’m passionate about showing how everyone, no matter their ability, can enjoy the magic of time spent outdoors. As an Accessibility Ambassador for The Outdoor Guide I’m excited to share some of my favourite accessible walks with you all.

This route takes us along part of the South West Coast Path, starting at the Pentire Gaze National Trust Car Park (PL27 6QY ). There are 6 disabled bays. It is a fairly big car park with a great disabled toilet.

Should you need it, there is Tramper hire available for a morning or afternoon by emailing the property in advance of your visit . There may be a delay in response so please book in advance if you can. You don’t need to be accompanied to hire a Tramper from here.

As you come out of the car park turn right and left again past some houses following the pathway on a tarmac road. You will notice another car park and on your left will be a smaller gate next to a larger one. Passing through this you come to another small car park.

Take the left pathway which does go up a slope – but I managed in my electric wheelchair. The views really start coming into their own from here. Continue on this path and keep to the left. This part of the route can become very muddy if there has been lots of rain so please be careful. When you reach the gate at the top turn to the right down a little pathway to a bench. The views are so magical here.

Retracing our steps back past the cafe and we go through the orchard to the pathway leading down to the beach where there is another gate. The terrain along this part is slightly challenging as there are lots of ridges to negotiate.

The tramper was able to get down on the beach although it was a bit bumpy on approach. I had to turn around as it was too difficult and challenging to get down to the beach in my electric wheelchair.

Coming back on ourselves we headed for the take away cafe which has a slope to take you up to the ordering windows. There are outside benches and you can also sit inside or just under a canopy if you fancy taking a rest from the wind and sun. The staff are very helpful!

I loved the views from this walk and I would definitely recommend having or hiring a tramper as it is challenging terrain.

Remember to prepare properly before heading out on any type of walk or outdoor activity. Tell people where you are going and what time you are expected back. As Wainwright says "There's no such thing as bad weather, only unsuitable clothing".
