By Kate Jones, Author of My Plastic-Free Home
If you’re someone who finds solace in the rustle of trees, joy in muddy boots, and purpose in leaving no trace, then you already know that our love for the outdoors doesn’t stop outside. It extends into the way we live, the choices we make—and how we live in our homes.

That’s the spirit behind Kate’s book, My Plastic-Free Home—a heartfelt guide to living more simply, sustainably, and in tune with the world around us.

Bringing Sustainability Home

Low waste living
Kate’s journey toward low-waste living began with the birth of her daughter. As she prepared for her arrival, she found herself overwhelmed by the sheer volume of “stuff” she was told that she needed. It wasn’t long before she realised—most of it wasn’t essential. What truly mattered were the small, grounding rituals that they found in the everyday: walks in nature, nourishing meals, and mindful moments together.

Over the years Kate found that her love of low waste living grounded her family and gave so much purpose to the little things in life that we often overlook, so much so that they even opened a thriving family owned eco-friendly refill shop in the heart of their community – The Natural Living Shop.

My Plastic-Free Home was born from Kate’s love of sharing all the ideas and tips that her family loves and help them to lead a life that is a little kinder to the planet –without sacrificing joy or practicality.

Homegrown and Homemade: Food That Feels Good
Cooking from scratch doesn’t need to be time-consuming. In My Plastic-Free Home, Kate shares plenty of “foundation recipes” and quick ways to reduce food waste while keeping meals simple and satisfying.

Think no-waste veggie stock made from peelings you’d normally toss, or creamy cashew milk whipped up in under a minute. Even those leftover almond bits from homemade milk? They make the most delicious energy bites—waste not, want yes please!

There are tips for storing food properly (so your carrots don’t go limp), freezing herbs and greens before they turn, and even regrowing veggies from scraps. It’s about getting creative, being resourceful, and finding joy in the process.

Bringing Sustainability Home

More Than Just Plastic-Free
My Plastic-Free Home is about more than ditching plastic—it’s about creating a lifestyle rooted in sustainability, self-sufficiency, and care for the planet. For those of us who feel most at peace among trees, under big skies, or with our hands in the soil, the home can become an extension of our outdoor values.

Whether you’re looking to:

  • Reduce household waste
  • Make your own natural products
  • Create a comforting space in your home that aligns with nature
  • Spend less time shopping and more time outside

– this book is full of practical ways to get started, or to go deeper.
