The rugged North Devon bay that’s home to a Acorn Property Group’s exclusive development of homes: Lee Bay is the pearl we’ve been looking for …
Author bio: Anna Reid is an outdoor and lifestyle PR, excited to discover Lee Bay, a piece of her home county of Devon.
Untamed seaside charm
North Devon is a much-loved and untamed part of the country, famous for it’s beaches, coastlines, and good living. The only thing between me and Lee Bay was the speed limit; I couldn’t get there fast enough. As the Sat Nav counted down and the sun rose into the sky, the lanes got wilder and quieter. I’d reached this little pearl: gorgeously untouched seaside charm without an ounce of commercialism. The first thing I did is take off my shoes – these toes needed to touch the sand and sea.
A slice of the South West Coast Path
This 1000 kilometre national trail is famous in itself – most recently enhanced by the film The Salt Path – and is a route of changing landscapes. The Lee Bay development sits so close to the path you can quite literally taste it, and the stretch either side is a hilly, euphoric adventure. The cliffs jolt out enthusiastically and wildlife is abundant. This is a place to breathe deeply and watch the ocean.
Seal the deal
The area is home to grey seals and common seals, who rest on land to digest, socialise and feed their pups, so they are a common and delightful sighting. If you spot one of these beautiful creatures, back away quietly using binoculars or your camera to discreetly enjoy the view from a distance. Ensure your four legged friend is on a lead and let the seals rest peacefully in their natural habitat.
Lee Bay is rural but not isolated – neighbours Woolacombe and Croyde are both lovely and lively
Woolacombe’s two mile beach is a dream – come out of season and you’ll find space to run free! In season, it’s a warm and welcoming hive of activity. Croyde is said to be a surfing Mecca – so enjoy the exhilarating waves and dry off for a wander around the boutique style shops and mouthwatering eateries.
Beyond the coast: a green and enchanting land
During the flowering season many of the village hedgerows are rich with the scarlet flowers causing Lee to be locally referred to as ‘Fuchsia Valley’. Behind the bay are some heavily wooded areas, with tempting footpaths to meander along. The rural feel of this part of Devon gives an undeniable feeling of freedom and wellbeing.
