After a period of guiding for other walking companies, in 2012, I decided to go it alone and Wild Rambling was born. It wasn’t meant to be women only but mixed holidays didn’t get off the ground and women only groups are so supportive, especially if you haven’t done anything like it before.

Many friendships are formed and I know a lot of women meet up outside the holidays to go walking. Most people book more than once and in fact, there are several ladies who are now well into double figures for the number of holidays they have booked with us. Not bad for just 8 years.

There have always been three to five trips a year as I’ve run them alone in my work holidays but in 2018, we ran a large multi-level holiday in the Lakes for 36 women so three other guides came along to help. This was the first step for them guiding on their own for me so, for 2021, I’m expanding the number of holidays on offer with a range of experienced and specialist guides, in locations all over the UK.

A Wild Rambling holiday isn’t just about walking though – we have kayaked, wild swum, been to the theatre, had interesting talks, visited interesting places like gin distilleries, stately homes and gardens. And we like tea and cake stops and the occasional glass of wine!

I’m so proud of what we have achieved in the past eight years and the women we have brought together. I’d love to have you on one of our holidays – I know it’s a bit daunting (trust me) but if you love walking, and the company of other women and cake, the chances are you will love it!
