Beginning as CCC (Camping and Caravanning Centre) in Sheffield in 1969, we quickly earned a reputation for excellent customer service. This put us on the map, and we became known as something of a landmark for Yorkshire’s active outdoor community.
From those beginnings, we have now grown to become the UK’s largest outdoor clothing and equipment retailer. The first GO Outdoors branded store was opened in 2004 in Coventry, where one of our now-seven flagship stores remains. The company was then acquired by JD Sports in 2017, meaning a move of headquarters from Sheffield to Bury, in Greater Manchester. It also meant we could join forces with established equestrian brand Naylors and Fishing Republic- who both continue to be prominent in new and existing stores.
The JD Group acquirement has helped us go from strength-to-strength and we now have over 75 stores in the UK, along with a nationwide staff of about 4000 people, with more to come!
Perhaps the crowning moment of this expansion came in August of 2024, when we opened our brand-new York Vangarde site. The flagship is the largest-ever outdoor store in Europe, coming in at a whopping 125,000 sq ft and including unique concessions for brands like Tiso, Ordnance Survey and Jessops. In addition to this innovation, we have began rolling out GO Outdoors Express stores- which have allowed us to increase our high street presence in a compressed format.
We pride ourselves on our extensive range of items available for every adventure, with around 380 brands displayed on our shelves and online. These include staple own brands such as Peter Storm, North Ridge and Eurohike and well-known names like Rab, Montane and Berghaus. Through our membership scheme, we also offer customers a unique shopping experience that allows them to get the best price on their outdoor items through discounts and our price match guarantee.
