The Idea
Founded by former journalist and TV exec, Simon London, KidRated launched in June 2014, and has been growing ever since. The simple idea struck Simon after a holiday in Egypt, during which Elliot, his 10-year- old made a video review of the hotel, which they put on YouTube. It was only really meant for Elliot’s grandparents, but on returning to the hotel a year later, they were astonished to find many kids not only recognised him, but their parents had booked the hotel based on his review. Eighteen months later Simon left his job at the BBC and threw all his time (and savings) into making KidRated a reality.

“It was like a bolt of lightning”, says Simon “Parents need ideas and inspiration for things to do with their kids, while kids need reassurance from their peers that it’s going to be great. So why not create a site that combines the two? Every parent knows, if your kids are happy, everyone’s happy. Get that bit right and you’re on to a winner.”

KidRated works in lots of ways …

For Grown Ups: We’ve uploaded more than 300 reviews including a parents’ point of view for quick reference. We also have great offers on days out, weekend breaks and West End theatre tickets.

For Kids: They can use the site to find something new and exciting to do. Parents are more likely to pay for something, if they know what they’re spending their money on.

For Attractions and Venues: They can pay to have a page on the site or an annual subscription to ensure it links to their main website. If you run a business and want to know more, click here.

Things To Do: We’ve worked really hard to make sure there’s something for everyone, including – quizzes, competitions, blogs, film lists and itineraries. A favourite section is Best Days Out, where we ask celebrities where in London and the UK they liked to visit as a kid, and where they go with their families now. Past interviewees include Louis Theroux, Tony Way, Julia Bradbury, Marek Larwood and Julie Graham.

Social Media: If you want up-to-the minute info on offers, deals and places to visit, don’t forget to befriend us on Facebook or follow us on Instagram and Twitter. Bookmark it and tell your friends. You can also sign up to the KidRated Newsletter to get exclusive weekly content jam-packed with creative ideas.
