The Hotel was built in 1590 as an Elizabethan Manor House where Queen Elizabeth 1 is known to have stayed.

The Manor House is full of original features including the wood panelled Oak Room with a carved frieze by Indonesian sailors and large York stone fire place.

The hotel offers 21 comfortable bedrooms, some with stunning views of the castle, some with pretty views over the terrace.

I had a wonderful night’s sleep at Mortons House Hotel. There are double or twin bedrooms in the annex, with enormous wetrooms. The hotel is so wheelchair friendly. The food is delicious too!
