Walk Details
Hello, I’m Sharon and I’m passionate about showing how everyone, no matter their ability, can enjoy the magic of time spent outdoors. As an Accessibility Ambassador for The Outdoor Guide I’m excited to share some of my favourite accessible walks with you all.
This walk takes us along the Camel Trail in Cornwall – starting at Wadebridge and working our way along the River Camel to the estuary in Padstow and back again along the same route.
If the full length is too much for you – you can go as far as you wish before turning around to head back.
There is accessible parking at the Piggy Lane Car Park (PL27 7AP) – located just behind the supermarket and has 5 EV charging points.
Whilst there is cycle hire at the start of the trail and in Padstow (you will need to return the bikes to wherever you hired them) – they don’t have a tramper hire service. One way this is a little over 5 miles so you do need to be sure you have excellent batteries.
This is a lovely route – it’s fairly flat and is tarmaced most of the way. It’s a dedicated foot and cycle path so there are no cars to contend with or gates anywhere along the way. It’s a straightforward route to follow as you are following the path of the river. Whilst it is a dog friendly route – I’d recommend keeping them on a lead as there are lots of others using the path (including a lot of cyclists).
There is a cafe with outside seating at either end of the trail and, during peak season, you’ll find a portable cafe with great service and amazing coffee and snacks around 3 miles into the journey.
There are no toilets along the way – you will find some in Padstow that are accessible though.
This route is fairly exposed in places – you should go prepared for all weather conditions. It’s a stunning route with lots of opportunities to spot wildlife as you go.
For anyone looking for a longer adventure – the Camel Trail also continues inland and onto Bodmin.
This is a wonderful route for all the family to enjoy!

Remember to prepare properly before heading out on any type of walk or outdoor activity. Tell people where you are going and what time you are expected back. As Wainwright says "There's no such thing as bad weather, only unsuitable clothing".
