Walk Details
Hello, I am Charlie Sim, retired engineer living in the Scottish Borders town of Peebles. I love walking and being outdoors – and I’m delighted to be sharing some of my favourite walks here with you.

This is a short to medium walk that will take you around 2 hours. Make sure you have good walking boots for this and poles if you’d prefer.

We start our walk from the Kingsmeadow car park. From here we head towards Caledonia Road where you will see a path leading between the houses. At the end of this path we take a right. Here you will see signs for John Buchan Way.

Take a left and follow the path to Craigerne Lane, at the end of the lane turn left and head towards Cademuir (following the signposts).

As you continue along the road towards the entrance to Tantalla House, veer to the left, through the gate and follow the path to the next gate. Take a left to the style and follow the path around to Cademuir car park.

Proceed left down the gravel path until you reach the road, where you turn left then take the next right. This takes you onto a drive that leads into Haystoun House and estates.

Halfway down the path is The Cut, it is sign posted. If you want to do a shorter walk – this is a short cut. All you need do is follow the path to Jubilee Woods and then onto Glen Road back to Peebles.

If you’re continuing on, like me, you may want to make a short detour here to see Haystoun House, along with the grounds and lake. Whilst this is a private estate, the owners allow you to come in but please do respect the private area signs. You will also see a box at the side of the Burn for donations to Macmillan Cancer Support.

When you’re ready we continue walking through the estate and along the other entrance driveway. This will bring you out at Glen Road which you can follow to the Premier shop or the tennis club into Victoria Park back to town, enjoy.

Once back at the town it’s only a short walk from the river up past the post office to The Park Hotel, which has a great outside area if it’s a nice day.

Remember to prepare properly before heading out on any type of walk or outdoor activity. Tell people where you are going and what time you are expected back. As Wainwright says "There's no such thing as bad weather, only unsuitable clothing".
