Launching 3rd May 2018 at Whinlatter Forest Park
Lake District Mobility is a new charity aiming to provide specialist ‘all terrain’ mobility scooters from scootersleuth.com to outdoor businesses and attractions to improve access to Cumbria and The Lake District for people with limited or restricted mobility.
From 3rd May 2018 we will be leasing all terrain vehicles to outdoor businesses, who will then hire them out to Lake District Mobility Pass Holders. To become a pass holder you can simply register with Lake District Mobility for £10 for an annual pass or £2.50 for a taster pass and then complete a short safety training course at the outdoor attraction of your choice. We will be launching at Whinlatter Forest Park and will be operating at more sites soon, with Grizedale Forest Park coming next.
Last summer we had a lot of fun trialling all mobility scooters at Whinlatter called a ‘Tramper’. Lucy le Roux, who took part in the trial, said, “The scooter was easy and fun to use and it was amazing to be able to experience the forest and get out into nature with friends. I had such a sense of freedom and I look forward to using a Tramper again!”
We are extremely grateful for the individuals and businesses who have already supported our fledgling charity. As a result of their generosity we are able to launch Lake District Mobility this spring. Julia Walker from Lake District Mobility said, “the private donors are a very big part of the picture but without all of you, this would not be happening. A massive thank you to everyone that has supported the charity.”
We have teamed up with Countryside Mobility in the south west of England and with their expertise, we have been able to establish the charity and also address one of our biggest concerns of path erosion. We want to ensure that we are not damaging the very beauty we are visiting to admire. Countryside Mobility has 45 sites and through auditing and monitoring skills, they have not had an issue in over 7 years of operation.
If you have limited or restricted mobility (blue badge not required) and would like to get out and about more in Cumbria’s wild places, please come and try our Trampers at Whinlatter, see some of the Lake District’s finest views or simply enjoy following your kids around the Whinlatter Wildplay Trail with nine different play zones for children of all ages.
