Walk Overview
Explore Rhossili’s golden beach, downlands, headland and the Gower Peninsula’s highest point on this circular coastal walk through an ancient landscape.
Visit when the sun’s shining and you’ll be treated to sparkling blue-green water and miles of golden sand.
The route delivers knockout views across Rhossili Bay and out to Worms Head, with the added bonus of climbing to the 193m summit of The Beacon that marks the highest point on the Gower.
The 360 views from The Beacon’s trig point will take your breath away, and despite the area being popular with tourists this summit is often one you’ll have all to yourself. The Burry Holms tidal island feels so close that you could hop straight across to it, and on a clear day you can see all the way to Devon.
In spring and summer the song of skylarks will follow you across the downs, and don’t forget your binoculars because the area is overflowing with coastal wildlife.
This route was voted 28th in a 2017 ITV poll to find Britain’s Favourite Walk.
