100Green

100Green are the only supplier of 100% green and renewable energy in the UK. That means that even if you use gas to heat your home, you are not buying energy that comes from fossil fuels.

Most energy suppliers offer at least one green electricity tariff. But at 100Green every tariff is green and renewable and what makes it even more sustainable is that the gas is made from 100% green sources too. 100Green have been selling green energy since 2001 – so they know their stuff.

So, what is 100% green gas and why are 100Green the only supplier to offer it?

Green gas is made through a process known as anaerobic digestion – in fact the process also creates renewable electricity. Put simply, the energy is created when natural, organic waste decomposes – waste like cow poo or food scraps. The gasses that are released are captured and either purified so they can go straight into the gas grid or fed into an engine that creates electricity.

It’s pretty amazing stuff. And what’s even more special is it forms part of a circular economy that not only benefits the planet but also benefits small farms across the UK, like 100Green generator Stephen explains. He uses the waste from his dairy farm to make electricity and heat to power his cheese making and farming.

Every kWh of green gas that 100Green buys is certified by the Green Gas Certification Scheme. This proves its origin. It also means that unlike many other suppliers in the industry, 100 Green are prepared to only grow as fast as their green credentials will allow and therefore remain a small, independent and family run business.  And that’s probably one of the reasons why 100Green are the only supplier willing to offer 100% green gas.

Taking the meaning of green even further

Even the generation of green energy can have a negative impact on the environment.

Take for example wind turbines or solar panels. They are all manufactured somewhere, and they take up valuable green spaces. Similarly, hydroelectricity plants can disrupt the habitats that naturally form in flowing streams and rivers.

That’s why 100Green offer EKO energy. The energy in this tariff has met stricter sustainability criteria than industry regulations require.

The wind farms 100Green buy electricity from cannot be located near protected areas like nature reserves or be in the path of migrating birds. Hydroelectricity must come from generators where fish migration paths are not impacted. And all green gas must come from naturally occurring waste rather than energy crops specifically grown to make energy.

100Green – A lifestyle choice, not just an energy choice

Let’s face it, even if your energy is generated in weird and wonderful ways, it’s not the most exciting utility bill to manage. That’s why 100Green make it as easy as possible to get straight through to someone who can help, and will strive to fix whatever needs fixing so that you can get on with your day. Here’s Sue Roaf, who has been a 100Green customer for over 20 years, talking about how important it is to have a trusted relationship with your energy supplier.

People choose 100Green because they share the same values and goals; to live more sustainable lives. And that’s why 100Green are delighted to partner with The Outdoor Guide and celebrate their shared connection with nature.

What does green energy and walking have in common?

All energy supplied by 100Green is generated in sustainable ways, making use of the planet’s renewable resources like the sun, wind, water and natural waste.

Walking is one of the best ways you can get closer to nature. Building a connection and having an appreciation for our natural world means we are much more willing to step up and help protect it.
