Walk With a View…

It can easily be argued that Weymouth is England’s original seaside resort. From here a railway used to run out to Portland and Chesil Beach – and that’s the route this walk follows.

We start at the railway station and head out across Weymouth Harbour. We’re following the old railway line which is now an off-road cycle path as well.

This takes us southwards, past the Rodwell and Southlands areas of the town before we pick up Englands Coast Path.

Here we continue out onto Portland itself, heading east past Portland Castle, going round below the prison until we pick up the South West Coast Path. We continue onwards until our walk concludes at the remains of Rufus Castle.

From here you will either need to arrange transportation back to Weymouth or consult your map to get you to your next destination.

Skyworks worked with Julia to make the Railway Walks TV series. You can find more about their stunning aerial filming on the World from Above page here.

Remember to prepare properly before heading out on any type of walk or outdoor activity. Tell people where you are going and what time you are expected back. As Wainwright says "There's no such thing as bad weather, only unsuitable clothing".
