Walk Details

Hello, I’m Sharon and I’m passionate about showing how everyone, no matter their ability, can enjoy the magic of time spent outdoors. As an Accessibility Ambassador for The Outdoor Guide I’m excited to share some of my favourite accessible walks with you all.

This walk takes us on part of the South West Coast Path. We’re starting at the Daymer Bay North Cornwall Car Park (PL27 6SA). You’ll find the car park down a small lane – it’s a large car park though! Top tip – make sure you have downloaded the Just Park app before you go as the signal is bad when you get there. You also need to make sure you leave the car park at least 10 minutes before your ticket runs out – there is a camera that films you going in and out and even if you are a few minutes over you face a £100 fine with nowhere you challenge it easily!

There aren’t any accessible toilets in the car park – the nearest ones are about a 3 minute car drive away in Polzeath. There’s also a lovely accessible National Trust cafe in the village which opens from 10am.

The route for this walk is a variety of tarmac, loose gravel and grass – it’s really easy and quite flat.

Daymer Bay is just off the main road. The views are amazing and you can certainly see for miles. It is open to the elements so make sure you are prepared. The trail is a variety of tarmac, loose gravel and grass and is quite undulating. It’s a path that is well used by joggers and dog walkers.

When you get to Polzeath there’s a footbridge that isn’t suitable for wheelchair users – so we need to turn around and retrace our steps. For those who are able to make it across – it’s a loose gravel path down into Polzeath so car should be taken, especially in wet weather conditions.

It’s always lovely to be out on the coast path – I hope you enjoy this short section of the North Cornwall coastline.

Remember to prepare properly before heading out on any type of walk or outdoor activity. Tell people where you are going and what time you are expected back. As Wainwright says "There's no such thing as bad weather, only unsuitable clothing".
