Hello Toggers!

National Parks

Happy National Parks Day!

On 1st March 1872 the world’s first National Park was designated by President Ulysses S Grant. That park was Yellowstone National Park in America – it was designated as such to protect its geothermal features and wildlife living there. Today there are over 6,500 National Park across the world, with 15 being located across Great Britain.

Today is the first UK National Parks Day – a day to celebrate the landscapes, communities and stories that make these spaces so special. National Park are important as they preserve and enhance the natural beauty of these varied landscapes and maintain the right we all have to access open countryside.

My love of walking began in the Peak District when my Dad would take me walking as a child. Since then I’ve been lucky enough to explore all of the National Parks we have here in Great Britain.
