Walk Details

Managed by Forestry England, Wareham Forest has many tracks and paths just waiting to be explored – many of them, like this one, are wheelchair and pushchair accessible. Dogs are welcome on a lead due to the amount of wildlife that calls this place home.

Our walk starts from the Sika Trail car park and, heading North East, takes us to a magnificent view point.

There is a gate to go through – which is wide enough for all wheelchairs.

The forest is home to an array of wildlife including sika deer (hence the name of the car park!). The best time to see the sika is during October and November when it’s the deer rut season – just listen for the calls of the rutting stags. If you have dogs with you during this time, make sure they are kept well under control.

As you progress along the trail you’ll go through a mixture of new and old trees and may also catch a sighting of woodlarks who make their nests on the ground in the heathlands. You might also spot a sand lizard or smooth snake.

There’s a lovely picnic area close to the car park, and in summer months there’s a small cafe and cycle hire.

Access TOG’s Verdict:

This is a lovely walk through some woodland that’s rich in wildlife. The track is flat and the surface, made from compounded gravel, is suitable for powered and manual wheelchairs.
