The Peak District National Park was the first National Park in England, created 70 years ago. It is widely regarded as the spiritual home of the free access to the countryside we all enjoy today. A treasured landscape of exceptional natural beauty, it is located in the heart of England, surrounded by significant urban areas. The Park covers 555 square miles, spreading out over five counties, with 38,000 people living within the Park’s boundary and 20 million people living within an hour’s drive of the Park.
Our lives are inextricably linked to the environment in which we work, live, and play. The Park is facing many challenges, from climate change to ensuring it remains a welcoming and accessible place for all. If we do not act now, the Park will change forever, impacting the many communities who rely on it.
About the Peak District National Park Foundation
The Peak District National Park Foundation is an independent charity set up to help care for the Park. Our vision is that the Peak District National Park is enjoyed and conserved by everyone, forever. Our focus is on protecting our grasslands, moorlands, and woodlands, increasing outdoors learning, ensuring accessibility, and supporting local community groups which aim to preserve the Park. The Foundation funds projects that benefit the people, communities, and cultural heritage of the Peak District National Park.
