Walk Details
Hello, I am Charlie Sim, retired engineer living in the Scottish Borders town of Peebles. I love walking and being outdoors – and I’m delighted to be sharing some of my favourite walks here with you.

As a circular walk – you can do it in either direction. Here we are doing it clockwise. The walk takes approximately 2.1/2 to 3hrs. It’s mostly on the flat with a couple of hills but nothing too strenuous.

If you watch my YouTube film about this walk you’ll see I refer to other walks such as Cademuir Haystoun, 52 steps and more.

These can all be found here on The Outdoor Guide and you have the option to link them to this one for a longer walk.

You need to be prepared for the weather as it can change quickly. I recommend at least a good pair of walking shoes, better if you wear boots. Layer up, scarfs and hats recommended, as wind chill is very real in exposed areas, especially in the winter months.

I started from Kingsmeadow car park, proceeded along Kingsmeadow Road to the east of the town until I reached the Whitehaugh Farm track. This is opposite Calvary Business Park. Follow the farm lane (sign posted White Haugh Farm) on the right and keep going all the way to the top.

Once at the top walk towards the farm, on the right there is a kissing gate, go through and proceed along the lane to Gypsy Glen.

At the end of the lane turn right onto the walkway that leads to Glen Road. As you pass Haystoun Estate entrance where you could do an extension of this walk if desired, just follow Haystoun Cademuir walk and combine.

As you head towards the top of Glen Road, turn left and head towards Jubilee Park. Walk through the park and you will come out at Bonnington Road (this is the posh part of the town where the mill owners had their houses). Proceed to the right till you reach Craigerne Lane on the left and follow past the new high school. At the end of the lane you come to the top of Edderstone Road.

Proceed all the way down to the bottom of the road till the mini roundabout. You can turn right and head back to town for a shorter walk. However to continue, take a left then immediately turn right, walk along to the end of this road and you will see a path between two houses, follow this to the River Tweed.

Turn right to head back to town, left to continue the walk, this brings you to a bridge, crossover the river into Haylodge Park, go straight across to the main gate of the park – here you will see paths on both sides of the river –  this is called the 3 Bridges Walk (a short stroll that’s perfect for Sundays afternoons, we cover all 3 bridges on this walk).

Once through the gate, use the pedestrian crossing to the car park (this could be used as an alternate start and end point for this circular) and head towards the path north towards the golf club. At the golf club follow the red shale path onto the periphery of the course, being mindful of the golfers who have priority over walkers.

Follow the edge of the course to the house in the distance. Here there are two options – I used the style off the green and onto Eliot Park, then onto the lane adjacent to Rosetta Caravan Park.

Proceed down the lane onto Rosette Road, turn right then left down Kingsland Sq, at the bottom turn right then left onto Dalatho Bridge and cross over Eddleston River.

Once at the other side, right takes you back to town, left to continue towards the Ford garage.

At the main road, head straight across onto  the drive straight across from Crossburn Caravan Park and follow all the way up to Venlaw Castle.

Go through the private car park onto Venlaw Hill walking track, following the path ahead through the kissing gate, there are several routes through here so best use the map or video to get to the next point of Peebles Hydro Hotel.

Once there you may think about stopping for lunch or refreshments as it’s not too far from the end point here.

Once refreshed, head down the hotel drive onto the main road, cross over the new crossing into Kerfield Park to the Gytes Sports Center, they are still working on refurbishment of the walk way from here to the river back to the start point.

Currently I use the alternative route by walking along to the bowling green, take a left at the club house or walk straight along, both bring you to the green, this is across the river from the start point.

Remember to prepare properly before heading out on any type of walk or outdoor activity. Tell people where you are going and what time you are expected back. As Wainwright says "There's no such thing as bad weather, only unsuitable clothing".
