Summer is here!
Earlier this week the northern hemisphere had the summer solstice – 21st June, the longest day and the point at which the sun is at its highest in the sky. Some cultures see the solstice as the beginning of summer whilst others see it as mid summer. While the sun may be slowly making her way back down again, and the days will gradually be getting shorter, for many, we’re still looking forward to the summer holidays ahead.
As the children approach the final weeks left of the summer term, attention is focused on how to spend the long break ahead. And that’s where we come in – we’re here to offer some inspiration of places to go and things to do across the UK this summer.
Perhaps if you’re watching the coverage from Worthy Farm this weekend, you’re feeling inspired to get to a festival yourself this summer. If you’re a member of the Camping and Caravanning Club – there are still some tickets available for their Torchlight Festival of Camping which is in Walesby Forest, Nottinghamshire in August. Friday night headliner – our very own Julia Bradbury is taking to the decks again for her DJ set (was one of the highlights from last year!). Not only that – you’ll be able to see Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Will Young, Toyah and Dodgy across the weekend too.
If you’re headed up north of the border this summer, then we recommend a stay at one of the Crieff Hydro Family of Hotels. We’re delighted to welcome the group on board as one of our latest partners of The Outdoor Guide. You’ll be sure of a warm welcome at any one of their venues.
No matter where you are this summer – make sure you take enough fluids with you, wear a hat, use plenty of sunscreen and stick to the shade where you can.
Our recommendations of the week
Walk the city walls
Not all walks have to be out in the countryside – there are some lovely ones in our cities too. Chichester, West Sussex is home to one of the most intact Roman defences anywhere across southern England. This walk takes you along and on top of those ancient walls and through the beautiful Bishop’s Palace Gardens in the grounds of the cathedral.
