Summer in Sussex
Less than 2 hours on a train or in a car from London you can find yourself in Sussex. Once upon a time is was a kingdom (it’s name derives from being the Kingdom of the South Saxons) but is now split into the two counties of East Sussex and West Sussex. It’s an area rich in natural beauty – with the South Downs National Park running through, the dramatic white cliffs of the Seven Sisters and miles of countryside walks.
Ahead of the Walk Yourself Happy Retreat that’s taking place in West Sussex in September – we thought we’d head there this weekend for some summer fun!
Weekend Walks/City Visits
For our walk we’re heading to the historic town of Arundel. On arriving in the town you can’t help but notice the castle. This is the ancestral seat of the Earl of Arundel and Duke of Norfolk. Back in the days of Henry VIII this would have been a hot bed of activity as it was Thomas Howard who held the title. We’re headed to Swanbourne Lake and Arundel Park. It’s a popular spot and suitable for all the family with a cafe, ice cream stand and boating lake – but a short walks takes us away from the crowds and into a green oasis where you’ll quickly forget you’re so close to the town centre.
We’re heading over to East Sussex to stay the night, in the rural idyll of The Grain Store located in the South Downs National Park between Lewes and Brighton. It’s light, airy and peaceful here. The perfect place to switch off.
Happy Campers
The NEC in Birmingham will be host to the Motorhome and Caravan Show this October – and we’re going to be there too to talk about the great work that The Outdoor Guide Foundation has been doing with the Waterproof & Wellies campaign. We’ll be joined there by our friends and supporters of the campaign – Love2Stay and Salop Leisure. Why don’t you come join us? Tickets are available now.
Staying secure online
With recent global outage with Mircosoft, keeping things safe and secure online is as relevant as ever. We’ve recently welcomed Cyber Overwatch on board as a partner – they’re at the forefront of cyber security innovation. When they heard what we were doing with the Waterproof & Wellies campaign – they wanted to do what they could to support and so, with every sale they make, they will be donating kit to schools to help more children explore the outdoors.
Family Friendly Walks
The summer holidays is the perfect time for grabbing a picnic and heading out for a family walk. If you’re wondering where to go – we can help. The Outdoor Guide has over 600 curated walks which include routes for little boots and family friendly walks that are less than 4 miles in length.
