This Town
In the late 1970’s there was a cultural explosion that began in Coventry. It was called 2Tone. More than just a record label from which it took its name, the 2Tone movement encompassed design, fashion, social justice and bringing different racial communities together. The ethos of 2Tone stands for unity, peace and respect, joyful but with a strong social conscience.
To coincide with the BBC TV series This Town, which first aired over Easter, tonight BBC Radio WM are celebrating the music that came from the 2Tone label – and we thought it only right we continue that celebration here.
Exploring the 2Tone Movement
Our walk this week follows the 2Tone Trail through the streets of Coventry. Starting at the amazing Coventry Music Museum (run by Pete Chambers who recently won Visit England’s Tourism Superstar Award for 2024) we then follow a trail that takes in some of the key locations in the city including where The Specials first met, where they played their first gigs and the terraced house where the record label began!
We’re staying the night in another significant building in Coventry – The Telegraph Hotel, once home to the city’s evening newspaper. Located in the heart of the city centre it offers comfortable beds and tasty food.
Hiking with your dog
There’s a certain joy in going out for a walk, even more so when you’re accompanied by a four legged friend. Most dogs love getting out and exploring new places just as much as you do – but there are always things you need to bear in mind before setting off. TOG Blogger, Jane Marsh, has provided us with her top 10 tips for hiking with your dog – what would you add?
Enjoy the magic of walking
