Walk Overview
This 12-mile walk follows the Sherbrook Trail and explores the picturesque Sherbrook Valley in the Cannock Chase Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
Starting and finishing at the Cannock Chase visitor centre, the Sherbrook Trail winds and undulates through a green landscape of open heathland, birch woodland and pine plantations.
You’ll follow the waters of Sher Brook for much of the walk; which is criss-crossed by the many footpaths, bridleways and bike trails that make the Chase such a great location for outdoor enthusiasts.
If you’re lucky you’ll spot deer stealthily tiptoeing through the trees, with nightjars, adders and lizards among the many fascinating species that call Cannock Chase home.
This former royal hunting forest is extremely popular with walkers due to its close proximity to several large towns and cities – including Birmingham – but this walk allows you to lose yourself among the trees in an area described as ‘central England’s woodland jewel’. This is a great walk for families and walkers of all ages and abilities.
This route was voted 79th in a 2017 ITV poll to find Britain’s Favourite Walk.
TOG VERDICT: Cannock Chase is the perfect place to escape the city and lose yourself in a world of woodland, heathland and beautiful wildlife
