Walk Overview
This circular walk in the Shropshire Hills passes through the stunning Carding Mill Valley and climbs to the rolling green plateau of The Long Mynd.
Starting in the pretty town of Church Stretton, your route leads through the remote-feeling folds of the Carding Mill Valley towards the impressive cascades of the Lightspout Waterfall.
As you climb past the falls you’ll emerge onto wildlife-rich heathlands with magical views across the Shropshire Hills.
From there you can choose to follow this route on towards the inviting pub at Bridges (great spot for crafty halfway refreshments) or explore The Long Mynd plateau before heading back to your start point.
The walking is strenuous but unthreatening through one of England’s most beautiful and underrated landscapes.
This route was voted 44th in a 2017 ITV poll to find Britain’s Favourite Walk.
TOG VERDICT: A simple but stunning walk through what feels like a forgotten landscape. Even better – the route has a pub at either end!
