Walk Details
No trip to this part of Ireland is complete without exploring Connemara National Park and this is a great walk that offers you some spectacular views across the rolling hills and rugged landscape of this place.
Our walk starts at the visitor centre and takes a figure of eight shaped loop around both the lower and upper Diamond Hill trails. It’s a well marked path that we’re following up into Connemara’s rugged mountains. As we gain elevation, so the landscape around us evolves, revealing breathtaking, panoramic views of the surrounding land. You can’t help but pause for a moment as you soak it all in.
The highest point on our trail takes us close to the summit of Diamond Hill – offering incredible views of Connemara from this elevation. On a clear day you will have views of the Twelve Bens in all their glory and one of the best views of Kylemore Abbey (if you get a chance to visit – they make amazing chocolate on site).
When you’re ready, we start our descent and rejoin the lower trail to complete the figure of eight loop. As you go, keep an eye (and ear) out for the wildlife that calls this land home – including the elusive red deer and numerous bird species.
This really is a stunning walk through the heart of Ireland’s Wild West!

Remember to prepare properly before heading out on any type of walk or outdoor activity. Tell people where you are going and what time you are expected back. As Wainwright says "There's no such thing as bad weather, only unsuitable clothing".
