OS Maps Champions in extraordinary times
Ordnance Survey (OS Maps) has recruited the next wave of OS Maps GetOutside Champions in its long-term mission to help more people to get outside more often. We’re delighted that Debbie North is one of them and supports OS in its mission to help more people to get outside more often.
The GetOutside initiative was founded by OS Maps four years ago to help combat the major decline in the UK’s physical health. The initiative already reaches around six million people each year. However, extraordinary times call for extraordinary measures. Working with the Outdoor Industries Association (OIA), OS has brought together more than 50 outdoor organisations, brands and retailers from across Europe. For this Europe-wide initiative, OS Maps has rebranded its successful GetOutside content hub as GetOutside Inside.
Alongside GetOutside Champions, experts, athletes and TV stars such as Julia Bradbury, Iwan Thomas, Ben Fogle, Sean Conway and Professor Greg Whyte will contribute to the hub. The variety of content includes a series of lively daily tips, challenges, puzzles, blogs, videos, virtual tours and activities to keep the young and old, and everyone in-between, physically active during these unprecedented times.
OS Leisure MD Nick Giles said, “While the nation is on lockdown, we have an important role to play in keeping people connected to the outdoors, to nature and activity that is good for body and mind. We all need to comply with the Government’s message of only leaving the house if necessary, so to keep those connections with the outdoors and to keep ourselves active in our homes, we must be more creative with what we do.”
At The Outdoor Guide we fully support this key initiative and the sterling contributions of OS Map Champions.
