Description
The guide is structured in chronological order from the moment the author decided to complete the challenge through to his actual attempt. There are various useful tips on getting fit, training regimes and suggested schedules as well as a consideration of the walking routes and which paths to use on each mountain. A ‘Dos and Don’ts’ section is particularly instructive in advising would-be climbers. This second edition of the guide includes in addition to the black and white ridge maps colour extracts from Ordnance Survey mapping overprinted with the routes.
Additional annexes provide a detailed plan for the Three Peaks Challenge, a list of GPS coordinates (also available for download from the publishers’ website), an accommodation list and further bibliography, plus notes by David Brawn, one of the co-founders of Discovery Walking Guides, on the importance of accurate navigation, GPS and planning in order to minimize the risk of failure. The guide is a useful companion for anyone wanting to attempt the National 3 Peaks Challenge from the initial decision through to the actual event itself.
