Lauren is 11 and is set to the youngest radio amateur operator to successfully make radio contacts from all 214 Wainwright summits in the lake district.
Throughout 2016, 11 year old radio ham Lauren will be attempting to reach the the summit of all 214 Lake district summits immortalised in the 7 books written by Alfred Wainwright.
As well as climbing all 214 Wainwrights, Lauren will be activating each summit by making amateur radio contacts as she goes.
If successful, Lauren will be the youngest person to activate all the summits by amateur radio.
This is a huge undertaking and although Lauren has been mountain walking from the age of four and, has 70 summits under her boots, these were all climbed before she got her radio licence so, she has to start them all again.
Lauren activated her first 5 summits last August quickly followed by another 20 in October. She had her first taste of winter hill walking in February where she managed a further 11 summits in true winter conditions.
Easter saw us back in the Lake district where, over two weeks, we managed to activate an incredible 50 summits (ascending over 9000 metres in the process – higher than Mount Everest).
May half term, should see us hitting around 20 to 30 summits which will put Lauren well and truly past the halfway point.
Further adventures are planned for August, October 2016 and Easter 2017
We have decided to split the fundraising between Patterdale and Keswick Mountain Rescue Teams. They do a great job however , we do not plan to use their services while undertaking this challenge.
