Walk Description
This is a great circular walk that takes in not only some of the amazing green spaces in the local area, but also offers a glimpse into the industrial heritage of Coventry. Please note that this walk is not suitable for anyone with side by side double buggies.
As we leave the gate from Pathways Family Hub, we turn right and carefully cross over Radford Road (using the pedestrian crossings). We’re heading up onto Radford Rec to start with. Your little ones may be tempted to run up the track that has been worn into the grass bank … but if you prefer an easier way in, continue along Lydgate Road and you’ll soon see a tarmac path to your right.
We follow the path to the far side of the Rec, and then follow it round to the left. The Rec offers plenty of open green space for your little ones, or your dogs to have a run around. As we get to the other side we come to Sandy Lane – here we carefully cross over towards Chetton Avenue and then turn right onto Daimler Road. Keep an eye out for the Daimler obelisk on your left – they had a manufacturing plant here for their motor vehicles from 1912 through until 1997 (and this part of the city is now named in their honour).
At the end of Daimler Road we’re using the footbridge ahead of us to cross the railway line and head into Cash’s Park. This footbridge has a barrier that will prevent anyone with a side-by-side double buggy getting through. Over the other side of the bridge, we’re heading left and across the dirt path through the trees until we come to another paved path. If you look to the right you’ll see the back of the Cash’s Buildings. These were considered the original cottage industry – with homes for workers located beneath the workshops where the weavers worked.
At the path, we’re turning left and continuing through the park, towards a great play area that your little ones will enjoy. We leave the park at the far end and continue along Kingfield Road, past the Amtico factory that crosses both sides of the road.
When we come to Marion Road on our left, we go down it and pass under the railway line and along the footpath. To our right we can see rugby pitches, to our left is the Joseph Cash Primary School. The path takes us straight onto Owenford Road – which we continue to walk straight along until we come to Jubilee Crescent.
Jubilee Crescent is a hub for the local community with a range of shops, banks, chemists, a library, a health centre, a dental surgery and much more. Our walk takes us straight through the middle – but feel free to take some time here if you wish. When you’re ready – we’re going along Links Road and then taking the first left onto Telfer Road. Just as we turn, on the opposite side of Links Road we can see St Francis of Assisi Church which has a playgroup for your little ones.
From Telfer Road we’re going to take the first right onto Foster Road. As we come to the crossroads with Beake Avenue – on our right we see Hill Farm Primary School. Whilst we’re actually turning left onto Beake Avenue – it may be safer for you to cross using the pedestrian crossing opposite the primary school.
On your right you will see Blossoms Day Nursery – immediately following the building, we’re turning right and walking down the drive towards Charnwood House Care Home. Just as we approach Charnwood – we notice a gate to our left that takes us into a small park area – this is the way we’re heading.
Following the path through the park – we come to Heathcote Street where we turn left and walk down to Radford Road. This is a very busy road and care needs to be taken when crossing. Ahead of us we can see Radford Common – that’s where we’re going next. There is a path that takes you part of the way and then it’s onto the grass. If there’s been heavy rain this might be a bit muddy! You’ll see lots of pay equipment here for your little ones to enjoy.
We head up onto Holland Road and turn left, crossing over Engleton Road and go onto Sherwood Jones Close, cutting down onto the grassy area to see the Radford War Memorial. From here we make our way back down onto the pavement and follow the Radford Road. We pass a Bingo Hall on our left before the Radford Social Club. As we come to the crossroads we find ourselves back at Pathways Family Hub where you can be sure of a very warm welcome!

Remember to prepare properly before heading out on any type of walk or outdoor activity. Tell people where you are going and what time you are expected back. As Wainwright says "There's no such thing as bad weather, only unsuitable clothing".
