Walk Description
Come join us for a walk around Radford and Coundon and discover some amazing green spaces that the area has to offer – you’ll forget that you’re so close to the heart of the city at times! If you’re on foot, we recommend wellies for this walk.
We start our walk from Pathways Family Hub that sits alongside the Radford Primary Academy. Heading out of the main gate, we turn right onto Lawrence Saunders Road and use the pedestrian crossing to get safely to the other side.
We’re then turning left to go along Radford Road. On the right hand side you’ll see the Radford Social Club – they have great function rooms that can be hired for parties.
We use the pedestrian crossing in front of the social club to cross over the road so we can then turn right onto Bede Road and then left onto Cheveral Avenue.
We continue on this road as it takes us up to Jubilee Crescent. Cheveral Avenue has a number of grocery stores on it. When we reach Jubilee Crescent you’ll find an ASDA supermarket, pharmacies, banks and plenty of cafes and takeaways. Here we are going left and going along Links Road (which the library is on the corner of). On the right hand side you’ll see St Francis of Assisi Church which has nurseries on either side. Further along this road there is also Precious Moments Nursery (also on the right).
As we come to a roundabout in the middle of the road, we’re continuing straight on, taking care as always when crossing the roads. We’re going to turn right just past here, onto Dickens Road, and follow it all the way up to The Scotchill where we turn left.
When we find ourselves at Kersley Green Road, we turn right and cross over by the Premier convenience store. We’re headed for Tamworth Road, so follow the path around, keeping the green space on our righthand side. We keep walking until we reach the traffic lights where we cross over to the other side of the road.
Just past the lights, we turn left onto Waste Lane. We go past Kersley Grange Primary Academy on our left and then use the crossing ahead of us to go over the road and into the car park for Coundon Hall Park. This is a wonderful park with a play area for the children to enjoy and plenty of space for children and dogs to run about. Please be aware that there is a pond area on the far left of the park – no one wants to take a dip so keep little ones away from the edge!
If you have wheels, be that a pushchair or wheelchair, you are advised to leave the park the same way we came in and then turn right and continue walking along the footpath to the end of the road. If you’re on foot – there is a narrow gate we can get through if we walk along the edge of the park towards our left (with the hedge and then Waste Lane on our left). This brings us out close to the end of the road.
At the end we turn left onto Brownshill Green Road, past Bablake Pre Prep School and then, taking care to do so, cross the road and turn right onto Coundon Green. We continue past the entrance to Coundon Lodge Country House and keep straight on until we come to Northbrook Road. This is where those with wheels will take a slightly different route to those on foot as Coundon Wedge, where we’re headed next, it’s yet accessible for wheelchairs and pushchairs. If you have wheels with you – continue straight on along Coundon Green and follow it around to the left as it becomes Hollyfast Road, next to Hollyfast Primary School. You’ll pick the route back up again by Bablake and King Henry VIII playing fields which are a little further down Hollyfast Road.
For those on foot, we’re turning right down Northbrook Road, going past Coundon Court School and then turning left, through the kissing gate/stile and into Coundon Wedge. If it’s been raining – you’ll quickly realise why we told you to wear wellies! There is a well trodden path that takes us across the field here to the far side. Here you’ll see two options – a path to the left that takes you up to a fence or a path to the right that takes you down into another field. With care (it can get slippy here), we’re heading right and then turning left to cross the field. It’s hard to believe here that you’re so close to the city – with the exception of the hum of the A45 in the distance, you’d be forgiven for thinking you were in the middle of nowhere! You can explore more of the land to your right here (and may see dog walkers crossing from neighbouring fields. We continue through into another field and then at the far end of that one, cut through the kissing gate into some woodland. Again, take care as it can get quite muddy here! We follow the path through until we emerge into the car park by the Coundon Social Club.
Walking across the car park, we take an alleyway that leads us onto Shorncliffe Road. Here we turn left and walk uphill (this feels like the hardest part of the walk) until the end of the road where we turn right onto Rosslyn Avenue, then left onto Haynestone Road. This then brings us out onto Hollyfast Road with Bablake and King Henry VIII playing fields directly ahead of us and a corner shop to our right.
Taking care, we cross the road and turn right, walking alongside the fenceline of the playing fields and with the cycle path to our right. We then take the first left, still Hollyfast Road and still with the playing fields to our left. On the right we go past Christ the King Community Centre and Nursery. As we reach Scots Lane, we turn right and then take the first left onto Christchurch Road. We then take the first left, Poole Road and follow it all of the way down to Lawrence Saunders Road. On the way we pass Three Spires Dance Academy on the right. There are also some busy roads we need to cross – please do so with care.
At the end of the road we turn left and then on the righthand side, just before the traffic lights, we see the entrance to Pathways Family Hub and find ourselves back where we started. The team at Pathways are on hand to offer a warm welcome, a hot drink and to help you in any way that they can.

Remember to prepare properly before heading out on any type of walk or outdoor activity. Tell people where you are going and what time you are expected back. As Wainwright says "There's no such thing as bad weather, only unsuitable clothing".
