Walk Details

We are starting our walk at Lyddinton’s Green. From Main Street we take Stoke Road out of the village until we come across a footpath on our right. Crossing the stile, we head across the fields and continue on until we reach the A6033.

Being sure to cross the road carefully, we then follow the sign for Stoke Dry. We continue to walk through the village, firstly passing the church on your left, which will likely be open and worth popping in to see.

When you’re ready, we continue on until we come to a bridleway marked on our left – or we could take a quick detour to the water’s edge and read the information board, before returning to the start of the bridleway. Here we leave the road and keep to the right hand edge of the fields. We catch glimpses of the reservoir from between the trees.

The bridleway then veers away from the water, climbing upward through fields and gateways to a summit. We then head downhill again, rejoining the A6003.

After 500 yards, a gas pumping station will appear on the left. Taking care, we cross over the A6003 and follow the footpath sign. A stile takes us into the first field, and we then head straight towards another stile, crossing into the next field, then making sure to carry on diagonally to the next.

From here we now head to our right, skirting the field with its interesting earthwork bumps. After a short distance, there will be a stile in the hedge line. Cut across the corner of the next field, looking out for the large circular Priestly and Bee hills ahead of us.

Soon another stile will be visible on our left. Head diagonally across this final field, with its prominent ridge and furrow, looking for the farm buildings ahead on our left. As we reach the farm buildings, we veer left with the farmyard on our right and follow the footpath onto the road to emerge next to the village sign.

From here we continue to walk into Lyddington and back to where we began.

Remember to prepare properly before heading out on any type of walk or outdoor activity. Tell people where you are going and what time you are expected back. As Wainwright says "There's no such thing as bad weather, only unsuitable clothing".
