Walk details
This classic circular walk from Hathersage tackles the famous gritstone escarpment of Stanage Edge in the Peak District National Park.
Starting from the delightful village of Hathersage, this walk covers some of the highest, wildest parts of the national park in the Dark Peak area. But the views will make the effort worthwhile.
Traversing the rocky escarpment of Stanage Edge and visiting the weird rock formations of Higger Tor, the views become more dramatic with each step. The panorama from High Neb, out over the Hope valley, Mam Tor and Kinder Scout, is magnificent.
In summer and autumn the landscape is painted purple with heather as you descend back to Hathersage.
The walk ends at School Lane, just a 10-minute drive from Losehill House Hotel & Spa, where you can unwind in the spa or sample the menu at the award-winning Orangery Restaurant.
JULIA’S VERDICT: The peak of perfection. No trip to Derbyshire is complete without a stroll along the weather-beaten rocks of Stanage Edge.
