The start of this walk has shops and a café so you could grab some lunch before you start. Then head through the lovely Walled Garden – once dedicated to growing fruit and veg, now featuring art installations and new planting. Don’t miss the fun observation hive!
After taking in the views of rolling countryside from the Orangery, turn up through woodland to the Long Walk, a half-mile long avenue lined with lime, oak and sycamore trees.
There’s a huge array of wildlife living at Gibside so keep an eye out for red kites, butterflies, maybe even the rare great crested newt.
The Column to Liberty looms over the Long Walk at one end, at the other is Gibside’s beautiful and unusual Chapel.
This family-friendly walk has something for everyone and can easily be extended if you’re feeling fit. There’s so much to see and do here.
