Walk Details
The walk is circular and starts at The George Inn (which is just opposite our two cottages, Greenwich and Chideock Cottages [both DT6 6JF]). The walk takes you along pathways alongside and through fields leading towards the sea.
Fantastic countryside and coastal views can be seen, which are particularly breathtaking the higher up you proceed.
The walk has an ideal stop off point after an hour’s walk at Downhouse Cafe [DT6 6AH] where we had a huge cream tea!
We then proceeded to walk through fields to the village of Eype and then along the coastal path (past the murder chalet scene of the first Broadchurch TV series) with steep inclines in the homeward direction this time keeping very near to the coast.
At the highest point is Thorncombe Beacon with fantastic 360 degree views. Then a downward incline heading to Seatown with a lovely pub called The Anchor (visited by Julia in her recent Walks with a View in Dorset).
Either stop off here at this beachside location for a well-earned drink or proceed inland back to Chideock along a bridleway, back to the starting point, for a thirst-quenching pint at the very welcoming George Inn.
Heather’s Verdict: A good circular walk which includes some steep upward and downward inclines with both countryside and coastal views of beautiful West Dorset.
