Walk Details
Hello, I am Charlie Sim, retired engineer living in the Scottish Borders town of Peebles. I love walking and being outdoors – and I’m delighted to be sharing some of my favourite walks here with you.
This walk is quite hard going as the first 3 hrs are uphill, so good boots, sticks if required and plenty of water and snacks. The full walk is 24.5 miles although at the 18 mile mark you can hop on a bus back to Peebles if you feel you’ve walked enough!
I started this walk at the Park Hotel in Peebles, we follow the Soonhope walk to the midpoint and then continue following this track right up to Collie Law.
As you approach the gate across the track we turn right up to White Law, at this point you can head up towards the turbines and link in to the track down to leithen water.
I turned into the forest track that takes you to the track. The forest is a bit haphazard as it’s not used frequently but is passable. It saves the legs of some steep hills.
As you come out the forest path you will see the track on your right, to access it you need to cut through some recently cut forest and follow this round to Dunslaire heights.
As you walk around the transmitter mast this is Dunslaire Heights, at this point you can go into Glentress and back to town, go over the top of the hills to Lee Pen back to Innerleithen, I took the track option down into Leithin Water Valley and made my way to Innerleithen on the road.
Depending on the weather – you may want to take the easier route here and catch a bus back to the Peebles. Or you can follow the multi use path back if you’re still up for walking some more.
When you get back to Peebles – head to the garden at The Park Hotel for some well earned refreshments!
Read the Countryside Code before venturing out

Remember to prepare properly before heading out on any type of walk or outdoor activity. Tell people where you are going and what time you are expected back. As Wainwright says "There's no such thing as bad weather, only unsuitable clothing".
