Walk Details

Our walk starts in the village of Rosedale Abbey and takes us southwards towards Lastingham. This is a circular walk that we’re going to take in a clockwise direction – but you can go in either direction.

We’re heading out of the village via the road to Pickering, before taking a right turn on to Chimney Bank and crossing over the river.

When you reach the White Horse Hotel, we turn left and make our way southwards, passing Newlands Farm on your left and a couple of sandstone houses on your right.

Continue along this path, past Hollins Farm, keeping on the same path southwards, past Hartoft Bridge Farm where we’re roughly following the path of the River Seven. We bear right where the path starts to head downhill and make our way south westwards, crossing over Tranmire Beck towards Lastingham.

As we reach the edge of Lastingham we turn right and head northwards along the Lastingham Ridge until we come to a road, Rosedale Chimney Bank. Here we turn right and follow the road back into Rosedale Abbey village and back to where we began.

Remember to prepare properly before heading out on any type of walk or outdoor activity. Tell people where you are going and what time you are expected back. As Wainwright says "There's no such thing as bad weather, only unsuitable clothing".
