Easter Adventures
The Easter holidays are very nearly upon us. With the days being noticeably longer and the weather starting to get that bit warmer, this is the time of year that is generally considered the start of the season for getting outdoors again by many. If you’re looking for inspiration of where to go and what to do – we’re here to help! Whether you’re looking for a countryside escape or a city break this Easter – read on!
Love the Lake District
It’s fair to say that the Lake District is a walkers paradise. There are so many walks to choose from. Our walk this week is up Helm Crag – one of Alfred Wainwrights beloved fells, and of which he wrote “the virtues of Helm Crag have not been lauded enough”. Our walk starts in the heart of Grasmere Village and whilst not a long walk (it’s just over 3km in length) it offers a little climb that Wainwright described as “a brief essay on mountaineering”.
After a day walking on the fells, we’re off to Cedar Manor in Windermere for the night. With 10 individually styled rooms and suites this boutique bed and breakfast is luxurious yet homely and offers the peace and tranquility you want.
Relax and restore
If there’’s one thing we all could do with more of in our lives – it’s time to pause, to relax and restore ourselves. If you’re one of the lucky ones who are joining us for a Walk Yourself Happy Wellbeing Retreat this year – you’ll have the opportunity to do just that with Lisa Pauley. She’ll be bringing her east meets west practices to help nourish your mind and your soul.
She has shared a blog with us about the practices she’ll be offering. You can read the article here.
Sent to Coventry
If you’re looking for a urban break this Easter – why not consider Coventry? Located in the heart of England this is a city with a long history and much to see and do. Our Historic Coventry Walk takes you on a journey back in time (almost 600 years) to visit the old city walls, one of the finest examples of Elizabethan architecture in the country, and of course the ruins of Coventry Cathedral that was blitzed in November 1940. For those who have accessibility requirements – we also have a wheelchair friendly version of this walk.
We’re heading to the Telegraph Hotel in the heart of the city for the night. It was formally the offices of the local newspaper, the Coventry Evening Telegraph (hence the name) and mementos from it’s former life can be seen around the hotel.
Just breathe
When did you last really pay attention to your breath? You probably did just then – but before that moment? The breath is our life force but all too often we pay it little attention. We’re excited to have both Patrick McKeown and Gray Caws join us for our Walk Yourself Happy Wellbeing Retreats this year to talk to us about the benefits of breathing lightly, slowly and deeply.
When you’re out for your next walk – you can use it as an opportunity to also do some breath work as Patrick explains in the video below.
Alongside Team TOG – you’ll also get to meet some of our friends and partners including Healthy Back Bags (if you’ve not seen these before – you’re going to love them), Flanci Activewear with their funky print leggings and Outdoor Active who’ll be offering inspiration for your next walking adventure!
And if that’s not incentive enough to come along – we have limited numbers of “Welly” good goody bags on offer in return for just a £10 donation to The Outdoor Guide Foundation. You’re not going to want to miss out on grabbing yours!
What are you doing this weekend?
Come join us at the National Outdoor Expo at the NEC in Birmingham – there’s still time to claim your free tickets using the code AWARDS. Make sure you pop along to see us on stand I70 to meet the TOG Team. Across the weekend we’ll be joined on the stand by Julia on Saturday and Gemma Hunt on Sunday. You’ll get to meet some of our partners and Hannah and Lisa – experts from the Walk Yourself Happy Retreats. Plus there’s the chance to win a free place at the Shropshire retreat in May!
