Gods own country
Home to rolling hills, magnificent moors, historic cities and a stunning coastline it’s little wonder why Yorkshire is often referred to as “Gods own country”. It’s a walkers paradise with not just one but two national parks to choose from. Next week, on 1st August, it will be Yorkshire Day and so, in eager anticipation of it – we thought we’d share some of our favourite parts of Yorkshire with you today.
A weekend at the coast
Whilst many associate Yorkshire with the wide open moors and Dales, the coastline is just as dramatic and offers vital habitats for a number of bird species and marine animals. Our walk this weekend will take us on a loop from Bempton Cliffs to Flamborough Head and back. At just under 12 miles in length it’s a route that was voted as one of Britain’s favourite.
After our walk we’ll be jumping in the car and heading a little further north to the seaside resort of Scarborough for some well earned fish and chips on the beach before spending the night at the Bike & Boot Hotel located on the sea front. It’s a family friendly hotel that caters for your dog too.
Take a grounding walk
It doesn’t matter where we go when we’re out walking – taking time to connect with the nature that surrounds us helps to ground us. This is even more so when we’re wearing our Bahé grounding shoes. They’re the only brand on the market that combine performance footwear with earthing technology – enabling you to get the benefits of grounding and connecting to the electricity of the earth without going barefoot.
Oh I do like to be beside the seaside
There’s a special magic about walking by the sea – especially on a summers day. Watching the waves break, hearing the cry of the gulls circling looking for a stray chip or two. You come away feeling refreshed and so much more relaxed – even more so when the sea is that bit rougher. Ever wondered why that is? Well wonder no more!
When water breaks, be that waves crashing on a beach or perhaps at a waterfall, it releases negative ions into the atmosphere. When we absorb them into our system they activate our parasympathetic nervous system – also known as our “rest and digest” mode – leaving us feeling calmer and much more relaxed.
Feel like you need to escape to the coast? We’ve got some great coastal walks ready for you to explore. Go grab yourself a dose of Vitamin Sea!
