Stepping in to Spring

This is a time of year that holds so much promise of what is to come. Days are starting to lengthen with more opportunity to soak up that vitamin D, temperatures are slowly starting to rise and new life is starting to peep through the earth. Although there will be the hardy walkers amongst you who have kept going through the colder months – many are starting to think about their outdoor adventures once more – and that’s where we come in! This week we’re all about helping you step out into Spring!

Stepping in to Spring

Springtastic Walks!
One of our favourite walks in early spring is the aptly named Springtastic walk in Walsingham in Norfolk. At a little over a mile in length, this is one of our Routes for Little Boots walks – suitable for all of the family to enjoy. In February there’s a carpet of snowdrops and if you go later in the year, you’ll find a carpet of bluebells in May.

We’re heading off to stay at Church Farm Barns in Norfolk after our walk. Having once been a working farm, there are now eight properties that are available to rent – and are also wheelchair friendly.

Rediscovering movement and play
If you’ve already read Walk Yourself Happy – you’ll be familiar with Hannah Beadle (she’s the expert from Chapter 8 – Green Fitness). She’ll be joining us for the Walk Yourself Happy Well-being Retreats, hosting two very special sessions based around the most primal language of the human body – movement and play.

Don’t miss your chance to join Julia, Hannah and the other three experts in the calming surroundings of nature for what could be a life changing health and wellness retreat. Book your place now for our retreats in the Lake District, Shropshire and the Peak District.

Hannah shares her passion for the outdoors in a guest article about movement, re-connection and discovering your inner joy.

Take a grounding walk
As Hannah relays in her blog, our ancestors moved differently to us in years gone by. Not only that though – they were also more connected to the earth. In modern life the shoes that we wear all too often serve as a barrier. The ground beneath us contains a natural electrical charge, and to be in direct contact with it allows your body to get back into sync with the natural rhythm of the earth – improving sleep, reducing pain and inflammation amongst other things in the process. Whilst walking barefoot is an option – there is another way to do it. Bahé grounding shoes are the first that combine performance footwear with grounding (or earthing) technology.

“These shoes have made all the difference. It’s sorta like caffeine for my toes but in a good way. I feel rejuvenated and more clear minded and calm.”

Emily, Bahé customer

Stepping in to Spring

Operation Wellyboot
A huge thank you to Jeff and the Toy Green Soldiers of “Operation Welly Boot” for their amazing work at raising £2,000 for The Outdoor Guide Foundation. Dressed as Toy Green Soldiers, the band of 8 men hiked across the Peak District, despite the horrendous weather raising money and smiles as they went!

With around one third of primary school aged children in the UK living below the poverty line – there is little money for food, let alone outdoor gear. That’s where we come in. Our mission is to provide every state primary school in the UK with 10 sets of waterproof jackets, trousers and wellington boots. We want every child to have the ability for outdoor play – no matter the weather. Each set costs £35 (or £350 per school) and with your help, even more children can get outdoors this Spring.
